The Hong Kong News is committed to openness about how our newsroom operates, who leads it, and how we respond when we fall short of our own standards.

Editorial Leadership

The newsroom is led by an Editor-in-Chief who bears ultimate responsibility for all published content. The Editor-in-Chief is supported by section editors for Politics, Economy, Culture, and Technology. The editorial team operates independently of the commercial and business functions of the organisation.

Ownership & Governance

The Hong Kong News is an independently owned publication. The editor is appointed by, and reports to, the publication's board. The board does not interfere in day-to-day editorial decisions. Ownership details are available in our Commercial Disclosures.

Conflicts of Interest

Journalists are required to disclose any personal, financial, or professional relationships with individuals or organisations they cover. Where a conflict of interest exists, the journalist is recused from relevant reporting and a disclosure note is appended to affected articles.

No member of the editorial staff may hold equity in, or serve as an officer of, a company they regularly cover. Secondary employment and speaking engagements that could give rise to conflicts must be approved by the Editor-in-Chief.

Advertiser Influence

Advertisers have no access to or influence over editorial decisions, story selection, or content framing. The commercial team does not communicate advertiser preferences to the newsroom. This separation is enforced by policy and monitored by the Editor-in-Chief.

Public Accountability

We accept formal complaints from readers and members of the public. Complaints should be submitted in writing to editorial@thehk.news. Substantiated complaints result in corrections, editor's notes, or formal retractions, published transparently per our Corrections Policy.

Regulatory Oversight

The Hong Kong News operates within the legal framework of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. We cooperate with the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data on data protection matters and with the Communications Authority where relevant.
