Hong Kong’s Lan Kwai Fong is preparing for one of its busiest periods of the year as Halloween celebrations begin on Saturday, October 17, with live DJ performances, street entertainment, costume parties and special offers across the popular nightlife district. Organisers expect visitor numbers to approach last year’s estimated 80,000, as the city steps up its Halloween activities to attract residents, tourists and partygoers.

Allan Zeman, chairman of the Lan Kwai Fong Group, expressed confidence in the event’s business prospects, describing Halloween as a long-standing Hong Kong tradition that gives people an opportunity to unwind, dress up and express their creativity.

The celebrations will run across three consecutive Saturdays, with organised activities scheduled from 7pm to 11pm. Restaurants and bars will also take part in promotions throughout the second half of October, giving visitors more reasons to explore the district beyond its nightlife venues.

Lan Kwai Fong expects another busy Halloween

Although predicting the exact number of visitors remains difficult, Zeman expects foot traffic to reach a level similar to last year’s estimated 80,000 people.

The annual celebration has developed into a familiar feature of Hong Kong’s social calendar. For many residents, Halloween offers an opportunity to step away from their usual routines, meet friends and take part in public festivities. Costumes, themed parties and street performances have helped establish Lan Kwai Fong as a popular gathering point during the season.

Zeman also pointed to the Hong Kong Tourism Board’s investment in Halloween-themed activities across the city this year. The wider programme is expected to draw visitors to different districts, potentially adding to the crowds heading to Lan Kwai Fong.

The district’s reputation as a nightlife destination makes it a natural choice for people seeking music, entertainment and late-night dining. Its concentration of bars and restaurants also allows visitors to move between venues without travelling far, while street activities provide entertainment for those who want to experience the celebrations without spending the entire evening inside a club.

However, the expected turnout remains a forecast rather than a confirmed attendance figure. Actual visitor numbers will depend on how many people choose to attend each event and how the crowds are distributed across the three Saturdays.

Monster parades and costume parties take centre stage

The main programme will feature the Monster Parade and Costume Party, held over three consecutive Saturdays from 7pm to 11pm.

The activities will include live DJ sets, face-painting areas and street entertainment designed to give the district a festival atmosphere. Visitors will be able to dress in Halloween costumes, take photographs and watch performers move through the area.

One of the main attractions, titled “Only in LKF! Halloween Cosplay Party @ LKF Monster Mash”, is scheduled to begin at 8pm. A troupe of costumed characters will roam the streets, bringing the Halloween theme directly to visitors rather than limiting performances to individual venues.

The roaming format is intended to make the celebrations part of the wider street experience. Visitors walking between restaurants, bars and other attractions will have opportunities to encounter performers along the way.

Live music will provide another draw, particularly for people looking to combine the Halloween festivities with an evening out. DJ performances are expected to add to the atmosphere during the scheduled programme, while face-painting zones will offer another activity for people preparing their costumes.

The three-Saturday schedule also gives visitors several opportunities to attend. Those unable to make the opening weekend can plan a visit for one of the following Saturdays, although the full programme and availability of individual activities should be checked before travelling.

Giant Halloween murals create photo opportunities

Halloween decorations have already been installed throughout Lan Kwai Fong, including large themed murals designed for photographs.

The installations give visitors places to capture their costumes and share images from the celebrations on social media. Such displays also extend the Halloween experience beyond the scheduled performances, allowing people to enjoy the themed setting while exploring the district.

For businesses, these photo opportunities can encourage visitors to spend more time in the area. People may stop to take pictures before moving on to a restaurant, meeting friends at a bar or watching one of the street performances.

The decorations also provide a visual identity for this year’s festivities. Combined with the costumed performers and live music, they are intended to make the district recognisable as a Halloween destination throughout the event period.

Twelve original monsters introduced for 2026

The Lan Kwai Fong Group has introduced 12 original monster characters for this year’s celebrations, accompanied by a collectible card series.

Customers who spend money at participating businesses will receive collectible cards, which can be gathered as part of the promotion and used to enter lucky draws. The initiative adds a retail element to the festivities, encouraging visitors to engage with participating restaurants, bars and other merchants.

Several of the monster characters will also appear at designated restaurants and bars. These appearances will connect the character series with individual venues and give customers another reason to visit participating businesses.

Collectibles can also appeal to visitors who want something beyond photographs and entertainment to remember the event. The monster designs provide a shared theme across the participating locations, while the lucky draws add an incentive for customers to collect the cards.

The group has not provided further details in the supplied announcement about the prizes, the number of cards available or the specific spending requirements for receiving them. Visitors interested in collecting the full series should check the terms at participating merchants.

Restaurants and bars offer discounts through October 31

Food and drink promotions will form another part of the Halloween programme. From October 17 to October 31, more than 20 Lan Kwai Fong merchants will offer buy-one-get-one-free drink deals and discounts of 15 per cent on selected signature dishes.

The offers will give visitors options beyond attending the street performances, particularly those planning an evening that includes dinner or drinks with friends.

For participating businesses, the promotions provide an opportunity to attract customers during the Halloween period. Discounted drinks and food may encourage visitors to try different venues or extend their stay in the district.

The offers also run for longer than the three Saturday evening programmes, allowing customers to take advantage of selected deals on other dates within the promotional period. However, the availability of individual offers may vary by merchant, so customers should confirm the applicable terms before ordering.

Visitors planning to attend should also consider the timing of the main events. The organised Saturday programme runs from 7pm to 11pm, while the featured cosplay party is scheduled to start at 8pm. Arriving early may provide more time to explore the decorations, find participating venues and take photographs before the busiest part of the evening.

Halloween remains a major fixture in Hong Kong

Zeman said Halloween has a history of around 40 years in Hong Kong and has grown into an annual event that allows people to relieve stress and show their creativity.

Lan Kwai Fong’s programme reflects that combination of entertainment and commercial activity. Costume parties and street performances give visitors reasons to gather in public, while restaurant promotions and collectible cards link the celebrations with local businesses.

The Hong Kong Tourism Board’s broader investment in Halloween-themed activities may also help spread interest beyond a single nightlife district. For Lan Kwai Fong, the immediate expectation is that the combination of established attractions, new monster characters and dining offers will bring crowds back at a level comparable to last year.

With the opening celebrations scheduled for Saturday, October 17, visitors can look forward to monster-themed street entertainment, music, photo opportunities and special offers across participating venues.
