DBS Hong Kong has introduced a new package of spending and travel benefits for DBS UnionPay Diamond Debit Cardholders, including rebates of up to 10 percent across mainland China, Taiwan and Macau.
The new benefits, launched on Tuesday, are aimed at customers who regularly travel, shop or make payments across Greater China, where cross border movement and spending have increased demand for payment services that work across multiple markets.
Under the new package, eligible cardholders can receive up to a 10 percent rebate on spending in mainland China, Taiwan and Macau. The card also provides a range of travel related benefits, including premium transport services and access to airport and high speed railway lounges.
DBS said the package is designed to give customers more value from everyday transactions while adding travel benefits that can be used during journeys within the region.
Rebates Cover Spending Across Greater China
The main feature of the new offering is the rebate available to DBS UnionPay Diamond Debit Cardholders when they spend across Greater China.
Eligible customers can receive rebates of up to 10 percent on spending in mainland China, Taiwan and Macau, according to DBS Hong Kong.
The card also provides a five percent rebate on overseas spending outside the local market, while local spending in Hong Kong can earn a two percent rebate.
The different rebate levels give cardholders benefits across several types of transactions, from purchases made during regional trips to everyday spending at home.
For customers who frequently cross the border for work, shopping or leisure, the offering combines payment rewards with travel services through a single debit card.
The introduction comes as cross border travel between Hong Kong and other parts of the Greater China region continues to support demand for payment options that can be used across different locations.

Premium Transport and Lounge Access
Travel benefits form another major part of the new DBS package.
Cardholders can receive up to three one way premium limousine rides, giving eligible customers access to private transport services as part of the card's travel privileges.
The card also provides access to more than 1,900 airport and China high speed railway lounges.
The lounge access covers two important parts of regional travel. Airports remain a major gateway for international and regional journeys, while China's expanding high speed railway network has become an important option for travel between cities on the mainland.
For frequent travellers, lounge access can provide a place to wait before a flight or train journey. The benefit also gives the debit card a travel component beyond its spending rebates.
DBS has positioned the package around customers who move between different markets and use a combination of transport, shopping and payment services during their trips.
Travel Protection Included
The DBS UnionPay Diamond Debit Card also includes travel protection benefits.
Coverage includes personal accident protection, medical expenses and certain travel inconveniences, according to the bank.
These benefits are intended to provide additional protection when customers use the card while travelling. The exact terms, conditions and eligibility requirements for the insurance coverage will apply to individual benefits.
By combining spending rebates with travel related protection, DBS is offering customers a package that extends beyond payment rewards.
The bank said the broader objective is to meet changing customer spending habits as people increasingly conduct transactions across more than one market.
DBS Points to Changing Customer Habits
Maggie Du, managing director and head of Deposits, Payment and Secured Lending at DBS Hong Kong's Customer Banking Group, said customers are increasingly making transactions across multiple markets and looking for banking products that can help them manage their money more efficiently.
She said the DBS UnionPay Diamond Debit Card adds to the bank's existing debit card range by combining cross border spending rewards with travel privileges.
According to Du, the benefits are intended to respond to customers' changing lifestyles and spending patterns.
The comments reflect a broader shift in how consumers use payment cards while travelling. A customer may use the same account for local purchases in Hong Kong, payments during a trip to mainland China and overseas transactions elsewhere.
For banks, that creates an opportunity to combine transaction rewards with services designed around travel.
For customers, the practical value of such products depends on where they spend, how frequently they travel and whether they can meet the conditions attached to individual benefits.

UnionPay Plans Further Cross Border Cooperation
Roger Lee, vice president of UnionPay International for the Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan region, said UnionPay International would continue working with DBS Hong Kong to develop products and benefits for customers who travel and spend across borders.
Lee said future cooperation would cover areas including travel, shopping and transportation, as well as other situations where customers make cross border payments.
The partnership between DBS Hong Kong and UnionPay places the new debit card within a wider network of payment services serving customers across the region.
UnionPay has a substantial presence in mainland China and operates payment services across international markets. For Hong Kong customers travelling within Greater China, the network can support transactions across different destinations while the DBS package adds rebates and travel related services.
The two companies did not provide further details about future products or specify when additional benefits could be introduced.
What Cardholders Need to Consider
The new package offers several categories of benefits, but customers will need to check the individual terms governing rebates, lounge access, limousine services and travel protection before relying on them during a trip.
The headline rebate rates also vary according to where spending takes place. Customers making local purchases in Hong Kong can receive a two percent rebate, while overseas spending can qualify for five percent. Spending across mainland China, Taiwan and Macau can qualify for rebates of up to 10 percent, subject to the applicable conditions.
The distinction means that the actual value of the card will depend on each customer's spending pattern.
Travel benefits may also be more useful to customers who frequently use airports or China's high speed rail network. Those who rarely travel may place greater value on the card's spending rebates instead.
DBS Hong Kong's latest offering therefore brings together three areas of the customer experience: regional spending, travel services and protection while travelling.
As cross border travel and commerce continue to connect Hong Kong with neighbouring markets, DBS and UnionPay are expanding the range of services attached to payment cards. For customers considering the new DBS UnionPay Diamond Debit Card, the next step is to review the eligibility rules and benefit conditions and decide whether the rebates and travel services match their own spending and travel habits.
