A blue BMW led police on a dangerous chase through Sham Shui Po on Monday morning, running red lights, mounting a bus stop and narrowly avoiding pedestrians as it attempted to escape officers.

Dashcam footage captured parts of the pursuit along Cheung Sha Wan Road and Yen Chow Street, showing the vehicle repeatedly taking risks in busy streets. The incident has prompted a police investigation after officers also received a report that the BMW had collided with a bus before leaving the scene.

The chase unfolded during the morning period, when roads and pedestrian areas in the Kowloon district can be heavily used by commuters and residents. Footage from the incident showed the BMW moving through traffic while a police vehicle followed behind.

BMW Uses Bus Stop to Escape Police

One of the clearest recordings showed the BMW travelling along Cheung Sha Wan Road near Kweilin Street with a police car in pursuit.

Traffic soon created a problem for the fleeing driver. A bus was positioned ahead of the BMW, leaving limited space for the car to continue along the road.

Instead of stopping, the BMW moved onto the bus stop and attempted to squeeze through a narrow gap to get around the obstruction.

The manoeuvre allowed the vehicle to continue its escape. The police car following behind had to wait for an opening before accelerating after the BMW.

People standing nearby appeared to stop and watch the pursuit as it unfolded. The presence of bystanders added to the risks created by the chase, as the BMW was attempting to pass through an area used by buses and pedestrians.

The footage provides a visual account of the pursuit, although the circumstances that led officers to stop the BMW and the precise speed of the vehicles have not been disclosed.

Chase Continues Near Dragon Centre

The pursuit later continued along Yen Chow Street outside Dragon Centre.

Another video showed the BMW approaching an intersection before crossing against a red traffic signal. The vehicle continued across a pedestrian crossing while people were in the area.

The BMW narrowly avoided pedestrians as it passed through the crossing.

The incident illustrates the dangers that can arise when a vehicle involved in a police pursuit enters an area where drivers, pedestrians and public transport are sharing limited road space.

A pedestrian crossing is designed to give people a designated route across the road, particularly at intersections where vehicles are expected to stop when the signal is red. The BMW's decision to continue through the junction created an immediate risk for anyone crossing at the time.

The footage also showed how quickly the situation developed. Pedestrians had little time to react as the vehicle moved through the crossing.

No injuries were reported in connection with the pedestrian incident.

Police Receive Report of Bus Collision

At about 11am on Monday, police received a report that the BMW had collided with a bus near Yee Kok Court on Cheung Sha Wan Road.

The reported collision adds another element to the investigation into the vehicle's movements that morning.

Police said no injuries were reported following the incident. The BMW, however, left the scene after the reported collision.

Officers are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the chase, the reported collision and the vehicle's subsequent departure.

The available footage may form part of the evidence being examined as investigators work to establish the BMW's movements and identify what happened at each location.

Authorities have not disclosed further details about the driver or explained why the BMW fled from police.

Multiple Traffic Risks During Pursuit

The sequence of events involved several separate risks within a relatively short period.

The BMW attempted to pass a bus by using a bus stop, continued through a red light and crossed a pedestrian crossing while people were nearby. Police also received a report that the vehicle had struck a bus before leaving the area.

Each incident occurred in a public road environment where other road users had limited control over the BMW's movements.

For pedestrians, the greatest danger came at the crossing outside Dragon Centre. People crossing a road generally rely on traffic signals and the expectation that approaching vehicles will stop. A car travelling through the crossing against a red light can leave pedestrians with very little time to move out of its path.

The use of a bus stop during the earlier part of the pursuit also created a risk because such areas are used by buses and passengers. Attempting to pass through the space could have put people waiting for or boarding public transport in danger.

The footage recorded by motorists provides an indication of the driving captured during the incident, but investigators will need to establish the full sequence of events through witness accounts, traffic camera recordings and other available evidence.

Investigation Underway

Police are continuing to investigate the incident.

The force has not announced whether anyone has been arrested or whether charges have been laid. Further details may depend on the identification of the driver and the findings of the investigation into the reported collision.

Authorities will also need to establish whether the BMW involved in the reported collision was the same vehicle captured in the pursuit footage and determine the circumstances surrounding its movements before and after the incident.

The absence of reported injuries does not remove the seriousness of the incident. A vehicle running a red light through a pedestrian crossing can cause severe consequences even when nobody is ultimately struck.

For motorists, the incident also demonstrates the risks associated with attempting to evade police on busy urban roads. A decision made within seconds can affect pedestrians, bus passengers, drivers and other road users who have no connection to the pursuit.

The investigation will determine what happened behind the wheel of the blue BMW and why the driver chose to continue through several dangerous situations.

Police are now piecing together the events in Sham Shui Po as they investigate the pursuit and the reported bus collision.
