A routine argument over parking in Yau Tong turned into a violent street confrontation on Wednesday evening, with one driver allegedly striking another on the head with a metre long iron bar before police arrived and arrested both men.
The incident happened at about 6pm near Sam Ka Tsuen Ferry Pier on Shung Shun Street, where a 51 year old concrete mixer truck driver and a 69 year old minibus driver, surnamed Cheung, became involved in a heated dispute over parking.
What began as a disagreement between two motorists quickly escalated into physical violence. According to the available account of the incident, Cheung allegedly pushed the concrete mixer truck driver with his body during the confrontation. The truck driver then retaliated by taking an iron bar from his vehicle and using it to strike the older man.
Video footage recorded during the confrontation showed the dispute escalating within moments.
Argument Turns Into Physical Confrontation
The footage showed the minibus driver moving towards the concrete mixer truck driver and appearing to push him with his body. The truck driver then responded by swinging the iron bar in a club like motion.
The blow landed on the minibus driver's head.
People nearby reacted immediately, with onlookers heard gasping as the older man staggered following the impact. He then fell to the ground but remained conscious.
The footage also showed the concrete mixer truck driver putting the iron bar back inside his vehicle after the confrontation. He remained at the scene rather than leaving the area.
The incident illustrates how quickly a dispute over a seemingly ordinary issue such as parking can become a serious confrontation when tempers rise and physical force is used.
Police were called to the scene and began investigating the circumstances surrounding the fight, including the actions taken by both men before and after the physical confrontation.

Both Drivers Arrested
Police subsequently arrested both drivers, although they face different allegations arising from the incident.
The 51 year old concrete mixer truck driver was arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. The offence relates to allegations that his use of the iron bar caused physical injury to the other driver.
The 69 year old minibus driver was arrested for common assault in connection with the earlier physical confrontation.
The different arrest allegations reflect the separate actions attributed to the two men during the dispute. The investigation will determine the full sequence of events and whether further evidence, including video footage and witness accounts, affects the case.
Police investigations following street confrontations can involve examining the circumstances that led to the dispute, identifying witnesses and assessing available video recordings. In this case, footage of the incident provides a visible account of the confrontation and the moment when the iron bar was used.
Injured Driver Taken to Hospital
The minibus driver suffered injuries to his head during the confrontation.
Emergency medical assistance was arranged, and he was taken to United Christian Hospital for treatment. He was conscious when he was transported to hospital.
The available information did not indicate that the man's injuries were life threatening. His condition and the medical assessment of his injuries will form part of the evidence considered as the investigation progresses.
The concrete mixer truck driver was also taken into custody following his arrest.
The incident has now been handed to the crime investigation team of the Kwun Tong police district. Officers are expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the dispute and the actions of both drivers.

Investigation Focuses on What Happened Before the Blow
A central question for investigators will be how the disagreement developed before the physical confrontation.
The dispute reportedly began over parking near Shung Shun Street. At some point, the argument became physical when the minibus driver allegedly pushed the truck driver.
The subsequent use of an iron bar significantly escalated the seriousness of the confrontation. The footage showed the object being swung at the older driver and making contact with his head.
Police will need to establish the precise sequence of events, including what was said between the two men, how the physical confrontation began and whether either driver continued the confrontation after the other had been injured.
Witnesses who were present in the area could also provide information about what happened immediately before and after the strike.
The fact that the truck driver remained at the scene after putting the iron bar back in his vehicle may also form part of the wider investigation, although his reasons for remaining there have not been disclosed.
A Dispute That Quickly Became a Police Case
The incident began with a disagreement over a parking matter but ended with two arrests, an injured driver and a criminal investigation.
For motorists and pedestrians in busy areas such as Yau Tong, the episode also shows how quickly confrontations between road users can move beyond verbal arguments. Once physical force enters a dispute, the consequences can extend well beyond the original disagreement.
Police have not indicated that the investigation is complete. The Kwun Tong police district crime investigation team is handling the case, and the circumstances surrounding the confrontation remain under investigation.
The two drivers have been arrested over their respective alleged actions, while the injured minibus driver remains conscious after being taken to hospital.
As investigators review the footage and other available evidence, the key question will be whether the evidence supports the allegations against each man and establishes exactly how a parking disagreement near Sam Ka Tsuen Ferry Pier turned into a violent confrontation.
