Two brothers were arrested after an argument over their late father’s inheritance reportedly turned into a physical fight on a busy street in Tsuen Wan on Monday afternoon, with the confrontation drawing the attention of bystanders outside a restaurant.
The brothers, aged 60 and 62 and both surnamed Chan, met near the junction of Sha Tsui Road and Ham Tin Street at about 3.30pm. What began as a verbal dispute escalated into a struggle involving the two men, prompting a third man to intervene as members of the public gathered nearby.
Police later arrested both brothers on suspicion of fighting in a public place. The incident is now being investigated by the crime investigation team of the Tsuen Wan police district.
Argument Escalates Outside Restaurant
Footage recorded at the scene showed three men involved in the confrontation outside a restaurant. The video captured a man dressed in black appearing to lose his temper before grabbing another man wearing blue.
The man in blue stumbled and fell to the ground during the struggle. A third man could then be seen attempting to separate the two men and bring the confrontation under control.
The scene unfolded in a public area near one of Tsuen Wan’s busy road junctions, meaning the dispute quickly attracted attention from people in the surrounding area. The presence of several onlookers added to the disruption as the men continued to struggle.
The argument was reportedly linked to a dispute between the brothers concerning their father’s inheritance. Police have not publicly disclosed details about the inheritance itself, including the assets involved or what disagreement led to the confrontation.
Family inheritance disputes can involve disagreements over property, money and the division of assets, but in this case police have so far provided only limited information about the circumstances leading to the fight.

Both Brothers Suffer Injuries
The physical confrontation left both brothers injured.
The elder brother, aged 62, suffered scratches to his chest and hands. His younger brother, aged 60, sustained a bleeding injury around the eye and complained of chest pain.
Both men were taken to Yan Chai Hospital for medical treatment following the incident.
The injuries reported so far appear to have been sustained during the physical struggle, although further details about their condition have not been released. Police are expected to assess the circumstances surrounding the injuries as part of their investigation.
The fact that both men were arrested reflects the police response to the public altercation rather than an immediate determination of responsibility for the injuries. Any further action will depend on the evidence gathered during the investigation.
Police Investigation Underway
The Tsuen Wan police district crime investigation team is handling the case.
Investigators are expected to examine the circumstances before, during and after the confrontation, including what was said during the argument and how the physical struggle began. Video footage from the scene may also form part of the evidence available to officers.
Witness accounts could help investigators establish how the dispute developed and whether other people became involved in the confrontation.
Police have not indicated that anyone other than the two brothers has been arrested in connection with the incident. The third man seen in the footage appeared to be attempting to stop the fight rather than participate in it.
The case also illustrates how a private family disagreement can quickly become a public police matter when a confrontation spills onto a street.

Inheritance Dispute Behind Confrontation
The reported inheritance dispute provides the background to the confrontation, but the precise disagreement between the brothers remains unclear.
Inheritance disputes can become complicated when family members disagree about how assets should be divided or interpret the wishes of a deceased relative differently. Such disagreements are normally addressed through discussions among relatives, legal advice or court proceedings.
In this case, however, the disagreement reportedly moved from a family dispute to a physical confrontation in a public place.
The incident took place in the afternoon, when the surrounding streets and businesses were active. As the confrontation occurred outside a restaurant, members of the public were able to see the fight and record part of it.
The footage may provide investigators with an independent account of the physical confrontation, although video alone may not establish what happened before recording began. Police will need to consider the footage alongside witness statements, medical records and other available evidence.
Public Fight Leads to Arrests
Hong Kong police treat fights in public places as criminal matters, and the arrest of both brothers allows investigators to establish the circumstances and determine what further action may be appropriate.
At this stage, the brothers have been arrested on suspicion of fighting in a public place. An arrest does not by itself establish guilt, and any eventual prosecution would depend on the evidence collected by investigators and decisions made by the relevant authorities.
The case remains under investigation.
For now, the dispute that reportedly began over a family inheritance has left two brothers injured, resulted in both being arrested and placed the matter in the hands of police investigators.
As officers review the available footage and gather statements from those involved, the central question will be how a disagreement between two family members escalated into a physical confrontation in the middle of Tsuen Wan. What began as a private inheritance dispute is now a police case, with the investigation expected to establish exactly how the fight unfolded and what happened immediately before it.
